SIBU: In an effort to assist each and every autistic child in the city, the Sibu Autistic Association (SAA) plans to build a new educational block.

According to its president David Ngu Tai Giin, they intend to construct an educational block next to their current premises since the existing building has limited space.

“It will cost more than RM 3 million. I am aware that raising money these days is difficult, but we will make every effort to construct a home for these autistic kids.

“We appreciate it if everyone here helped us fulfil this dream through your financial contribution,” he said in his opening remarks at the National Autism Convention 2023 here today (May 6).

Meanwhile, on the two-day (May 6–7) convention, Ngu said it aims to increase awareness so that the general public will have a better understanding of autism.

“With ‘Equipping for Future’ as our theme, we’re here to discover how to support our autistic children in thriving in life and realising their full potential.

“No matter who you are — parents, teachers, tertiary students, or even volunteers — do not worry about how you will be able to assist these children.

“A total of 13 speakers from throughout the country have been invited to the conference to share their knowledge, skills, and experience in helping our children with autism,” he said.

The convention was earlier officiated by Counsellor Joshua Ting Fu Ying, representing Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
