KUCHING: Austria is committed to strengthening its ties with Malaysia, with a particular focus on Sarawak.

The Austrian Ambassador to Malaysia, Andreas Launer, stated that Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg welcomed Austria’s intention to invest in and explore opportunities within the region.

Launer pointed out that potential collaborations had been identified in various sectors. “We are strong in technologies such as sustainable energy, green technology, public transportation, tourism, and healthcare.”

“Therefore, we would like to offer full support to the Sarawak government in all required areas, and hope to contribute to Sarawak’s economic development through future investments,” he told the media on Monday (May 29).

During a courtesy visit to Abang Johari’s office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia, Launer discussed these prospects for collaboration, and believed that close cooperation between Austria and Sarawak would pave the way for new mutually beneficial business opportunities.

The meeting was attended by economic officer Reinhart Zimmermann, as well as representatives from Andritz Hydro, INNIO Jenbacher, Pessl Instruments, Aqua Engineering, and Vamed.
