Auxiliary firefighter thwarts fire threat in store

BINTULU: Swift response from an auxiliary firefighter averted a potentially disastrous situation at Li Hua Plaza, Jalan Abang Galau on Monday (April 8), when a pile of clothes caught fire in a store.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that firefighters from the Bintulu station were dispatched to the scene, about 3km away, after receiving a distress call at 12.51pm.

Fortunately, a Jepak auxiliary fireman happened to be at the scene and promptly used a dry dust extinguisher to extinguish the flames before the main team arrived.

Upon the team’s arrival, it was found that the fire had already been successfully contained, requiring no further operational intervention.

The team remained on-site to monitor the situation and ensure there was no risk of reignition before ending the operation at 1.15pm.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
