KUCHING: Bangunan Baitulmakmur, which houses many of the state’s ministries, was a hive of activity yesterday morning as the government staff returned to work after staying at home since March 18.
Chief Security of Bangunan Baitulmakmur, Poniman Margiman said that it was surreal for him to see the staff and state ministers returning to their offices.
According to Poniman, he said that the security team was following the standard of operating procedures (SOPs) laid out by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) as safety measures for the building.
“The staff and ministers will have body temperature checks and must sign our logbook upon their arrival.
“They must observe social distancing when queuing for the temperature checks and using the elevators,” he told New Sarawak Tribune at Bangunan Baitulmakmur, yesterday.
Poniman added that when leaving the building, the staff and ministers had to sign the logbook as well.
“Starting today, the security will register the names of visitors as well.
“It was quite a long queue this morning. Because of the CMCO, we must stick to the SOPs and guidelines,” he explained. .
Poniman thanked all the staff and ministers for complying with the SOPs and guidelines set up by the security team of Bangunan Baitulmakmur.
Metrocity Matang shop owner Muhammad Nadzjib was happy to resume his business again yesterday.
He followed the rules and SOPs provided by SDMC including preparing hand sanitisers as well as enforcing social distancing among his customers.
“At first, I was a bit sceptical in conducting my business due to the fear of Covid-19. But seeing how all of the people who had come to my shop adhered to the rules, I was able to conduct my business,” he said
Muhammad added that he was prepared to operate according to ‘the new normal’ as long as he was able to put food on his table.
