LAWAS: Yesterday’s inaugural Career Day and Session with Ministry of Works (KKR) in Lawas was officiated at by Works Minister Baru Bian.

Held by KKR, the programme involved various agencies under the ministry, among them including Construction and Industrial Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia,

Akademi Binaan Malaysia (ABM), Sarawak Information Department as well as other state agencies, said a press release yesterday.

Highlighting the event was its official opening and the launch of “Drop Your Resume Day”, whereby local youths interested in ABM skills training were reqired to give their resume.

This programme was held in line with the ministry’s efforts in training manpower for the country, especially those involved in the development of the infrastructure. At the same time it was also aimed at producing more youths to get involved in the construction industry.

KKR believes that the success of the industrial sector does not lie only in the cost factor but in the skilled labour force. As such the youths are seen as the potential assets in this matter.

This Career Day and Session with the Works Ministry was seen as the starting point for extending the employment opportunities for local youths, especially with agencies under its jurisdiction. Rural youths should use this opportunity also to get further skills training in order for them to have greater marketability.

The event also provided good opportunity for youths to get involved in high skills training provided by ABM, among them

Scaffolding Erection, Welding 3G dan 6G, Wireman PW1, PW2, PW3 dan PW4, Blasting & Painting and others.
