SEBUYAU: The earth-breaking ceremony of the Batang Lupar Bridge will be held on Feb 18 at a project site not far from the Sebuyau-Triso ferry crossing point here.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to officiate at the event.

Infrastructure and Ports Development Assistant Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi, during his visit at the site on Sunday (Jan 10), said this will be another ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of bridges on coastal roads since it was initiated in 2019.

The 5.1-km long Batang Lupar Bridge would connect Sebuyau in Samarahan to Triso-Maludam-Pusa in Betong.

“This will be the longest river-crossing bridge in Sarawak or even in Malaysia.

“According to the contract, the Batang Lupar Bridge will be completed in 48 months,” Julaihi added.

The initial cost for building the bridge was said to be RM1 billion, however, the state government was able to reduce it to RM848 million.
