SIMANGGANG: Employees of the Federal Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) were told to adopt a frugal approach in spending funds.

KPDN Sarawak director Matthew Dominic Barin in stressing this, said the approach aligns with the government’s HEMAT values and the objectives outlined in the Malaysia MADANI policy.

“HEMAT consists of a combination of multiple values symbolised by each letter, and in it has two essential aspects.

“Among them is the attitude of civil servants in spending public funds sparingly and not extravagantly, while in terms of nature, it underscores the meticulous approach civil servants should adopt in performing their duties through observation and research,” he said.

He said this during the Ministry’s Sarawak chapter monthly assembly on Tuesday.

For information, HEMAT is an acronym made up of five core values, namely Hijrah Tatakelola, Empati Rakyat, Minda Pekin, Apresiasi Inovasi and Telus Tadbiran.

It requires civil servants to adapt to changing circumstances, conduct their duties meticulously, demonstrate efficiency in execution and maintain effective communication.

During the assembly, Inspector Wan Yunus Wan Morni from the Sri Aman District Police Headquarters (IPD) highlighted the negative impacts of online gambling, drawing attention to its detrimental effects.

Meanwhile, Matthew took the opportunity to commend recently promoted officers and those who have relocated to different branches or departments.

He also urged the members of the Sarawak KPDN to provide solid cooperation and integrity in carrying out their duties in the future.
