KUCHING: The recent surge in Covid-19 cases has prompted a call for heightened awareness, particularly among high-risk groups such as the elderly and individuals with respiratory conditions.
Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah stressed the importance of continued vigilance despite the perceived decrease in the severity of Covid-19 compared to its initial outbreak from 2020 to 2022.
“Compared to the initial Covid-19 pandemic in the country back in 2020 to the one that we have now, it is totally different.
“This is all thanks to the vaccination programme that we had, and it further proved how much it protected us from having severe symptoms.
“Though we have Covid, we do not worry that much because much like influenza, we will recover after two to three days,” he said.
Abdul Karim was speaking to reporters after officiating at the book launch of The Southeast Asia ArtLIST Vol. 1, the Southeast Asia International Art Camp 2023, and the Malaysia Book of Records Award ceremony ‘First To Paint’ at theSpring Shopping Mall here yesterday (Dec 19).
Speaking about the programme, he hoped it will inspire the local artists and creative industry fraternity to move towards a future filled with limitless potential and vigour.
“These can nurture a generation of aspiring artists, and even ‘wannabes’ who are blessed with creativity and ingenuity.
“I applaud such initiatives which can nurture a future generation of passionate artists and cultivate a deep appreciation for the arts within the local community,” he said.
