KUCHING: The Bidayuh community, especially the youth, has been called to come forward to contribute to the development of the Greater Kuching area.

Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD) Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn said, among others, members of the Bidayuh Graduates Association (BGA) can provide new and innovative ideas to develop the area covering Kuching up to the Serian area.

“BGA, you have the expertise that can assist in the development of the Greater Kuching area.

“You can contribute ideas, and of course, they must be innovative ideas. Hence, it can be in any field, from agriculture to the industrial sector, education to technical training, and others, to facilitate the development of Greater Kuching,” he said.

He said in a press conference after officiating at the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA)-BGA Graduates Symposium, themed “Developing a Competitive Mindset in the Ever-Evolving and Vibrant Global Landscape,” at the DBNA multi-purpose hall here today (March 25).

Earlier in his speech, the Tarat assemblyman added the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) is there to provide an opportunity, and this is where BGA can play a part in the development of selected areas.

“I also hope with the GKCDA, we will look at Greater Kuching more in line with the current development of the world

“It will be no more about planting paddy and vegetables the normal ways or rearing chicken for a short period of time.
“We have to look at this from a different angle and more from the perspective of how we can use all the resources in the state and market it overseas,” he said.

On another note, he said the Bidayuh must keep up with other communities by being robust in its thinking, knowledgeable, progressive, and competitive.

“In addition, all graduates here at this symposium can play a crucial role in helping develop a competitive mindset in their community by sharing their knowledge and skills with others. Don’t be kedekut (greedy) by sharing your knowledge.

“Some of the ways you all contribute are through mentorship, education, innovation, networking, entrepreneurship, leadership, and volunteerism.

“Overall, you, as graduates, can make a significant impact on our community by using your knowledge, skills, and experience to help develop a competitive mindset that fosters growth and prosperity in an ever-changing global landscape,” he said.

Meanwhile, the one-day symposium was organised by DBNA and BGA and attended by working graduates as well as unemployed graduates.

Through the symposium, it is hoped to enhance the knowledge and experience of graduates towards creating a more vibrant and progressive community, capable of participating meaningfully on its own and in the state’s socio-economic development efforts and initiatives, especially through GKCDA.
