Bidayuh Music Award honours top artistes

KUCHING: Bidayuh singer Maria Nohiemwas named the Best New Artiste during the Bidayuh Music Award (BMA) 2022.

In a short message, Maria thanked her family and friends who had never stopped believing in her.

“Thank you to those who believe in me and support me. I’m proud to receive this (award),” she said.

The award ceremony held at Pullman Hotel on yesterday (Dec 12) also saw the presentation of seven categories of awards namely the Best Vocalist, Best Video Music, Best Music Arrangement, Best Song Lyrics, Best Song, Lifetime Achievement Award, and Bidayuh Artistes and Musicians Association (BAMA) Special Award.

Deputy Minister of Creative, Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan and permanent secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Hii Chang Kee were among those present to hand over the awards to the winners.

Meanwhile, Claudia Geres won the Best Vocalist Award and the Best Video Music Award went to Swaiv Band with their music video titled ‘5678’.

Acid Rain bagged two awards. One was the Best Music Arrangement Award for their song called ‘Manuk Ba’uh’ and the second one was the Best Song Lyrics Award for their song called ‘Tihi Tagahang’.

The event also saw two recipients namely, Milton Anthony Suwen and Helmi Nyabig receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The BAMA Special Award was presented to 72-year-old Richmond Alan Morshidi.

After receiving the award, he said he was very happy and blessed to be able to be given such recognition.

“Thank you very much. Tonight, I feel very happy. And I want to thank God, my family and my friends,” he said.

Winners for all categories received a cash prize of RM2,000 except for the Lifetime Achievement which fetched a cash prize of RM1,000.

Apart from that, winners also took home a trophy and certificate of participation.

BMA 2022, the second edition of the award ceremony was organised by BAMA and supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP).
