KUCHING: Miro Simuh has been elected as the new Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief – the first Bidayuh to helm the position.
He was elected during the PBB Youth and Women wings triennial delegates convention (TDC) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching here today.
The Serembu assemblyman acknowledged that he must shoulder big and heavy responsibilities in leading the Youth Wing.
“I would like to thank the party’s top leadership for choosing me as the new Youth chief. I personally think this is not something to brag about because there are responsibilities that come with it.
“With PBB being the party that is the backbone of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), the most important thing to me is how we are going to make sure that the party remains strong in the nation’s political scene,” he told the media.
Referring to the Youth Wing’s main pillars, as highlighted by PBB deputy president Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas in his opening speech, he said inclusivity was paramount.
“This means the wing is open to everybody, ideas and critics which is in line with how the party is inclusive rather than exclusive.”
On the upcoming 15th General Election, he said the wing must prepare and do its part in ensuring GPS would once again win big.
“Moreover, the Youth Wing produced nine elected representatives, which is an important benchmark for us. This shows how the wing is an important platform for us to produce future leaders.
“I believe with the support from the top leadership and new executive committees, we will be able to succeed.”
For the record, the party’s Youth chief post was previously helmed by Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, who is Layar assemblyman and Deputy Minister for Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development.
