Body of missing man found by K-9 unit

SRI AMAN: A 25-year-old man reported missing after being swept away by strong currents at Sungai Belaie, Ulu Skrang on Saturday, was found dead yesterday (Sept 17).

The victim identified as Fresly Setipin, was found in the river by the Fire and Rescue Department’s (Bomba) K-9 unit around 3.15pm.

A spokesman for Bomba said the body was discovered about 50 metres from the search and rescue (SAR) control post.

The body was retrieved from the river and it was taken to the victim’s family for confirmation before it was handed over to police for further action.

The operation involved a total of 52 rescuers comprising Betong firefighters, Bomba K-9 unit, the police, Civil Defence Force (APM) and villagers.

According to a police report, Fresly went bathing in the river near Rh Nanga Belaie with eight friends around 11.30am on Saturday.

About ten minutes later, one of his friends realised that Fresly had been swept away by the currents. They attempted to rescue him but to no avail.

The villagers were informed of the incident and a police report was lodged for further action.
