MIRI: A bomb threat conveyed to the official email of an international school here has been determined to be a hoax.

Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said they had received a report concerning a bomb threat conveyed via email to an official email of an international school in the district yesterday (Nov 22).

In response to the threat, the police worked closely with the school and swiftly implemented measures to evacuate the premises, prioritising the safety of the students.

“Security sweeps conducted in and around the school premises by the police bomb squad yielded no evidence substantiating the bomb threat.

“Investigations also found the threatening email to be fake as there was no proof supporting the claimed existence of a bomb risk at the school,” he said.

He added that the police together and the school management have maximised security coverage at the affected school.

Alexson urged the public, particularly parents, to refrain from unnecessary panic and avoid engaging in speculations that could potentially cause public unrest and impede police investigations.
