KUCHING: The revised Budget 2023 is expected to be able to benefit women and the development of early childhood.

Deputy Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Rosey Yunus said that the revised Budget should be able to assist the women entrepreneurs.

“We actually need a lot of assistance in terms of business, so we hope that the women entrepreneurs can benefit from the said assistance.

“Hopefully, what has been presented in the recent Budget will, to some extent, help the women entrepreneurs and also for the early development of children,” she said.

Rosey, who is also Bekenu assemblywoman told reporters this after officiating at the Women Career Fair Sarawak Series 1 held at Cityone Megamall, here yesterday.

In the recent budget presentation, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that in order to encourage women to return to work, the Social Security Organisation (Socso) would amend its Act to give grants equivalent to 80 per cent of the insured worker’s salary.

Some 130,000 women who return to work after giving birth will benefit from this grant, which involves a total of RM290 million.

Following that, Rosey said it is a good initiative and it is a support programme for women to return to the workforce.

“For example, with the establishment of a nursery at the workplace, this will open up opportunities for the mothers to go back to the workforce knowing that there is a place (nursery) to look after their child.

“They can also take a break from work to visit their child at the nursery,” she said.
