KUCHING: The takeover of the Borneo Literature Bureau (BLB) by the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) is a relevant step in fulfilling Sarawak’s desire to be a developed and high-income state by 2030.

DBP Sarawak branch director Abang Haliman Abang Julai said the acquisition, which dates back to 1977, is important in preserving Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage.

“The acquisition of BLB represents a crucial step in safeguarding the treasures, wisdom, and uniqueness of the various races in Sarawak, ensuring the preservation of language, literature, and publishing.

“This move is also aligned with Sarawak’s development policy, fulfilling the state’s aspiration to become a developed and high-income entity by 2030,” he said.

He made these remarks at the opening ceremony of the Bahasa Jiwa Bangsa Festival at Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Sarawak Branch here today (Feb 15).

Abang Haliman further said the Borneo Collection Centre at DBP Sarawak houses over 1,000 printed materials published by BLB, including books, magazines, and other printed materials.

Meanwhile, he revealed that DBP Sarawak has rebranded its 2023 agenda to Rekayasa 2024 DBP Sarawak.

He said this rebranding aims to infuse Sarawak DBP’s programmes with scientific elements, fostering a culture of critical thinking, unity, and peace, while promoting sustainable development in Sarawak.

Last year, DBP planned a total of 127 programmes and successfully implemented 211 programmes.

These accomplishments have been captured in a new book titled ‘Melakar Naratif Jiwa Bangsa,’ which was launched during the event.

“With this achievement, we are committed to enhancing our capabilities through deeper collaborations with various stakeholders.

“As such, we have identified 284 flexible programs for implementation this year, so that the involvement of various parties, whether as synergistic partners, co-organisers or the support of non-governmental organisations can have greater impact,” he added.
