MIRI: A businessman here had the presence of mind to realise that he was about to become a victim of the so-called Macau Scam on Monday, and cut off the telephone caller immediately.

According to the state Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Supt Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah in a statement yesterday, the 52-year-old man told the caller, who had identified himself as a police officer from Johor, that he was not involved in any crime as the caller had alleged.

He said the caller had stated that the businessman was involved in a murder case and a warrant of arrest had been issued against him. The businessman subsequently lodged a police report, he added. -Bernama
