KUCHING : Two male suspects have admitted to committing more cable theft cases since June 2023.

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the two local men, aged between 22 and 38 years old, were arrested on Oct 3 at 4.30 am at the side of Jalan Reservoir on suspicion of stealing cables which belonged to Telekom Malaysia.

He added that police seized from them several items used for cable theft such as cable cutters, pulling ropes, iron rods, pliers, cable cutters, and two motorcycles, among others.

“The suspects also tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

“They later admitted to selling the stolen cables to scrap dealers at Mile 16, Jalan Kuching-Serian.

“Police have raided the premises and the scrap metal dealers were detained to further assist in the investigation,” Ahsmon said in a statement today (Oct 9).

The two male suspects were charged in the Magistrate Court on Oct 6 under Section 379 of the Penal Code which carried a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both, upon conviction.
