KUCHING: The Sarawak government through the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) is introducing the Digital Economy Awards 2023 (DEA2023).

The event aims to recognise individuals and organisations driving digital initiatives in Sarawak, propelling the region towards a digitally empowered future.

“DEA2023 is inviting innovative ideas and ground-breaking solutions from all Sarawakians to take centre stage on a global platform.

“Aligned with the vision set forth by the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS), the DEA2023’s call for entries showcases Sarawak’s unwavering commitment to become the beacon guiding the state’s journey to foster innovation and economic advancement,” SMA said in a statement today.

The agency said IDECS, under the leadership of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, has become a driving force for transformative change and its aims to steer Sarawak towards innovation-led growth and socio-economic advancement.

“This year’s DEA2023 coincides with the 27th World Congress on Innovation & Technology (WCIT) 2023 and the 6th IDECS, creating an exceptional platform to showcase cutting-edge digital solutions that are shaping the future.

Scheduled for Oct 4 to 6, the joint event WCIT|IDECS 2023 will take place in Kuching,  and will focus on the themes ‘Fulfilling the Promise of the Digital Age’ and ‘Pioneering the Digital Economy for Sustainable Development’.

SMA invited entries from various sectors to showcase their innovative ideas, research, visionary leadership, and solutions that contribute to Sarawak’s digital transformation.

The award categories include the prestigious Premier’s Digital Economy Award along with eight other categories like Digital Technology Transformation, Entrepreneurship, Digital Inclusivity and Digital Creative Content.

Submissions are open from Aug 28 to Sept  25.

The DEA2023 awards ceremony, slated for Oct  5, will honour winners and celebrate their transformative impact on Sarawak’s digital landscape.

“The prestigious Premier’s Digital Economy Award, a beacon of distinction, carries not only a coveted RM20,000 prize but also a gleaming trophy and a certificate.
