The new landmark for Miri.

MIRI: A gigantic ‘MIRI’ sign atop Bukit Telaga Minyak, also known as Canada Hill, is expected to give added value to the city’s aesthetic value.

The all-white sign, measuring 37 metres long and 18 metres high, is being erected at the hill top overlooking the city below with South China Sea in the forefront.

Mayor Adam Yii officiated at its installation sign on Tuesday (July 19).

The sign is close to the Miri Petroleum Science Museum and the replica of Oil Well No. 1 fondly known as the “Grand Old Lady” as well as another old time oil-industry related structure – “The Nodding Donkey”.

Work on the MIRI sign which is supported by four columns started in February this year.

The building effort has undergone two revisions to further strengthen the structure to withstand inclement weather as well as to pave provisions to provide lights around it.

Once the project is fully constructed and completed with floodlights, it is expected to become another iconic structure in the city.
