SIBU: The Sibu Jaya Carnival has been drawing the people to Sibu Jaya nightly ever since its official opening on Aug 31.

Its attractions include a water fiesta, a battle of the bands, a beauty pageant, a tribal food festival, a motocross championship and a mega concert.

The carnival will end on  Sept 18.

Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai Sempurai  thanked all those involved in the organising of the carnival.

He was glad the event would allow local businesses and residents to earn some extra incomes.

Speaking at the official opening of the carnival recently, Sempurai was optimistic that the Sibu Jaya township would continue to expand and prosper.

He said the masterplan conceived by the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg would ensure an orderly development that was crucial for Sibu Jaya’s continued success.

“From what I have seen, Amcorp Sibu Jaya, the developer of this vibrant township, has been very meticulous in carrying out our Premier’s vision for Sibu Jaya.

“It has also worked very closely with all relevant parties to ensure the continuous growth of this award-winning township,” he said.

The long list of public facilities available in Sibu Jaya included the recently opened Azman Hashim Community Sports Centre, the health clinic, fire station, police station, public library, proper roads, schools, and various government agencies, he added.

“As announced by Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also the Minister for Public Health, Local Government and Housing, SRDC will be building its own office in Sibu Jaya itself,” said Sempurai.

He pointed out that new road which would connect Sibu Jaya to Jalan Kong Yit Khim would open up an alternative passage to the township.

“All these developments will make Sibu Jaya even more central and accessible,” he said.

Sempurai cuts a ribbon to mark the official opening of the 2022 edition of the Sibu Jaya Carnival.
