KUCHING: Sarawakians celebrating Gawai Dayak have been advised to abide by the rules of the conditional movement control order (CMCO) throughout the festive period to curb the spread of Covid-19 outbreak.

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and Kuching North City Commission) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said Gawai should still be a joyous occasion even though it is being celebrated under the new normal.

“Celebrate it with your immediate family. Make it a memorable Gawai but abide by CMCO requirement. Just bear in mind, a happy family is a healthy family,” he said in his Gawai message when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune today.

He also hoped that the Gawai celebration will continue to foster relationships among Sarawak’s multiracial society.

“I wish all friends and the whole community in Sarawak Selamat Hari Gawai. Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai. Lantang Senang Nguan Menoa,” he said.
