SIBU: A ‘ngiling bidai’ (Gawai closing ceremony) was organised by St John’s Anglican Church Men Fellowship at a restaurant here, yesterday.

It was officiated at by a political secretary to the chief minister, Romeo Christopher Tegong.

Romeo was representing Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira and Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat.

Also present were businessman, Datuk William Tiu and St John’s Anglican Church Men Fellowship chairman Ujang Anyi.

In his speech, Ujang appealed for financial assistance from the two people’s representatives (Gira and Jamit) to enable the church members to participate in this year’s Sarawak Anglican Intercultural Sports Carnival to be held in Miri on July 19 and 20.

Ujang also said that last year, Jamit donated to the church for the same sports carnival held in Bintulu.

During the function Romeo announced a grant of RM10,000 from Gira to the church.

The event was made merrier with a Father’s Day celebration, lucky draws and singing.
