KUCHING: About 5,000 pieces of clothing were collected from 350 contributors in conjunction with the Program Infak Baju Raya Al Bait.

Yayasan Kepimpinan Al Bait (YKAB) chairman Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie said the initiative was to help the needy preparing for Aidilftri.

“Through this initiative too, it helps to instill the culture of contributing in the community to the needy.

“The collection period from the public started from March 13 until March 19 and has managed to collect approximately 5,000 ‘baju raya’ from 350 contributors around the city,” he told a press conference after officiating at the programme at Majma Mall, Wednesday (March 22).

The programme was held in collaboration with Tabung Baitumal Sarawak (TBS), Koperasi Al Bait Sarawak Berhad and Sarawak Islamic Complex Management, Kuching.

It also saw TBS donate about 27 Bakul Kasih Kenyalang worth RM1,890.

“This donation is also important to ensure the needy are not forgotten when observing the month of Ramadan.

“In addition, the tenants of Majma Mall also donated RM5,400. We will also distribute it to those in need,” said Shibli.

“We started this programme in Kuching because we know the crowd here is big and encouraging. If the response is encouraging enough, we will collaborate with more Rakan YKAB to organise such programmes in the future,” he said.

The free clothes provided can be picked up by the public at Lot C16, Level 2, Majma Mall.
