SIBU: A female civil servant lost RM34,206 after getting duped by online non-existent job and loan offers.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said two reports were lodged by the 30-something victim yesterday (Sept 3).

The victim’s ordeal started on Aug 18 when she logged into to her Facebook account and saw an advertisement offering part-time work.

“She immediately called the number listed in the advertisement and she was required to make a payment to give rating to the company where she would be given commission and returns on the capital for the task.

“She was also given some items to sell online,” he said in a statement today.

Zulkipli said the victim made an online transfer as start-up capital to order the goods as instructed by the suspect.

“However as she was short of money, she applied for a loan of RM30,000 from a company via online on Sept 2.

“In order to qualify for the loan, she was asked to make an advance payment so as to raise her credit score,” he added.

The victim made four bank transfers amounting to RM34,206 into four different accounts from Aug 28 to Sept 2, all with the promise of commissions for her work.

However after she failed to receive the promised commissions or the loan she reported the incident.

Zulkipli said the case is being investigated under section 420 of the Penal Code.
