KEPALA BATAS: A classroom at SK Lahar Yooi, Jalan Merbau Kudong here caught fire earlier yesterday.
There were no casualties or injuries reported in the fire that occurred around 8 am.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department Operations officer Mohammad Fikhri Abdul Aziz said the department received an emergency call at 8.06 am and a fire engine from the Tasek Gelugor Fire and Rescue Station was rushed to the scene.
“When the firemen arrived at the scene they found that the fire had occurred inside the classroom, involving furniture such as desks and chairs, as well as the structure of the classroom,” he said when contacted here yesterday.
He added that the fire was noticed by the school gardener who saw smoke coming from the classroom, and at the time of the incident, all students were in the school hall for a programme.
Mohammad Fikhri said the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are still under investigation. – BERNAMA
