KOTA SAMARAHAN: Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang hopes to see the end of water shortage problem in his constituency.

He said although most of the water stressed areas were in Serian, it also involved villages in Muara Tuang.

“Some 10 to 20 Iban and Bidayuh villages, a Chinese settlement, and both Kampung Jawa and Kampung Melayu are water-stressed.

“This is because the water treatment plant near Tebedu and Selabi in Serian is under maintenance, meaning water from the area cannot be channelled to the villages,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters at the Muara Tuang constituency operation base in Desa Ilmu yesterday.

Idris said his service centre was helping the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) to distribute clean water to houses in the villages.

“This is to ensure the people are not affected by the shortage of water, especially during the fasting month and the movement control order (MCO),” he said.
