KUCHING: The presence of 225 stalls at this year’s Kenyalang Park Chinese New Year (CNY) Bazaar is proof that the state’s economy has recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, the number of stalls that have been set up this year is an increase compared to 131 last year.

He also noted that MBKS has provided a large area (surrounding the Everwin Mall) to give businesses more opportunities to operate.

“This platform not only benefits small businesses but also inspires entrepreneurs who are looking to increase their income.

“In addition to the existing shops, there are around 89 stalls operating throughout the event,” he told reporters after officiating the Kenyalang Park CNY Bazaar here last night (Jan 7).

He went on to say that through his observation, many stall operators have created a brand name for their own products, which is a good sign for them to expand their market.

“I can also see the community’s creativity in marketing their products in conjunction with the CNY by producing unique designs,” he added.

Therefore, Wee pointed out that such a bazaar should be held from time to time to create opportunities for local businesses to promote their products.

The Kenyalang Park CNY Bazaar has already commenced on Friday, (Jan 6), and will go on for 16 days until Jan 21.

Also present were MBKS deputy mayor Hilmi Othman, political secretary to Premier Tan Kai and MBKS councillors.
