KUCHING: Sarawak Day is one of the main milestone events of the Sarawak government which is held every July 22 starting from 2016.

This year Sibu Division has been chosen as the host for the celebration at the Sibu Indoor Stadium.

Minister of Women, Child Development and Community Welfare, Datuk Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the celebration this time would return to its physical format after two years of hybrid observations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to her, various events have been arranged by the Sarawak Protocol, Ceremonies and Event Management Unit (UPPANS) for the celebration.

“Among those that will attract attention are Rosli Dhobi’s special musical theater performance, Sarawak Day 2022 special song, Sarawak Day 2022 special video “The Lost Kingdom of Sarawak”, dance performance “Thousand Hand, Thousand Hope” and performances by local artistes and well -known national artistes,” she said.

“So, let us all visit the Sibu Indoor Stadium on July 22 at 8 pm to celebrate the Sarawak Day celebration” she said at a press conference here yesterday.

Also present were Datuk Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications (Utilities), Annuar Rapaee, Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, and other government officials.

Fatimah, meanwhile, called on the people of Sarawak, especially in Sibu town to fly the Sarawak flag at their respective premises to enliven the Sarawak Day celebration.

“The Sarawak government’s milestone events are held every year not only to commemorate the country’s historic dates, but the celebration aims to instil a sense of belonging, love and patriotism towards the homeland, race and country.

“July 22 has also been declared a public holiday in Sarawak so that the date is remembered by all Sarawakians as an important moment in history to ignite the spirit of love for Sarawak.

“This historic moment should be remembered by all levels of society in Sarawak, especially the younger generation today because on that date, Sarawak governed itself for a period of about two months before forming the Federation of Malaysia with Sabah (North Borneo) and Malaya at that time,” she said.
