KUCHING: The first ever Sustainability and Renewable Energy Forum (Saref 2019) held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) is meant to recap the commitment of the state government and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) to the generation of renewable energy.

Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said Saref was organised by SEB in conjunction with the Utilities Ministry so that the state could learn about renewable energy from experts from around the world.

According to him, Sarawak felt challenged to share its experience, but at the same time, he felt that the forum was an opportunity to pick the brains of local and foreign experts.

He believed that it is a must for Sarawak to learn more about renewable energy from those who are already at the highest level of the industry. On the two-day forum, he said it showed how committed the ministry was to the efforts of making sure that Sarawak continued to have renewable energy besides generating power using coal and gas.

“Following the success of the forum, I hope that the one to be held in 2021 would be held at a bigger venue to fit in more participants,” he said in his speech at a recent welcoming dinner for Saref delegates at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

The diners were entertained by, among others, Dewi Seriestha (singer cum representative for Malaysia in Miss World 2014 and winner of the Miss World Talent title) and singer Hafiz Suip.

Also present at the dinner were Utilities (Rural Electricity) Assistant Minister Datuk Liwan Lagang; the ministry’s permanent secretary Datuk Alice Jawan; SEB chairman Datuk Amar Abdul Hamed Sepawi; SEB group chief executive officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili; SEB Power chief executive officer James Ung.
