MUKAH: The state’s first Civil Defense Force (Community) Emergency Response Team (CDERT-C) was established here last month to educate the community on rescue skills in times of emergency.

Deputy Minister of Sabah and Sarawak Affairs Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib believes the community can be the first responders to reduce the impact of accidents and tragedies in an area.

“Knowledge of skills is the most important to enable us to help save lives.

“I invited myself to participate in the course given by APM, because I don’t want to just watch when faced with an emergency situation,” she said.

Earlier, the Sarawak APM team together with the Mukah Division APM team gathered at Dataran Pehin to carry out a programme with the community involving village heads, community leaders, and housewives.
