MIRI: The construction of a new link road to connect Miri to Marudi will start next year.

According to Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government cum Marudi assemblyman Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, the route would be built based on R5 standard and would shorten the journey to Marudi by 20 kilometres.

“Once this road is completed, Marudi will be a must stop-over town and that is why Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) has instructed the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) to construct a 3-star hotel at the current location of the guest house building,” he said during the Gawai Dayak celebration at Rumah Justine Manai longhouse, Sungai Entulang Bakong, Marudi yesterday.

“This is not a dream but a reality because it has been approved by the state government,” he pointed out.

Another phase of this high impact project will connect Marudi to Long Linai, Long Panai, Long Terawan, Kuala Melinau further up to Limbang and Lawas, to create the Trans-Borneo highway.
