Cops announce road closures for Sarawak Regatta-Kuching Waterfront Festival

KUCHING: Ahead of the upcoming Sarawak Regatta-Kuching Waterfront Festival this Saturday (Oct 28), the city police have issued a road closure notice and traffic management.

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the festival’s opening is scheduled for Oct 28, with the closing ceremony taking place on Nov 5.

To ensure smooth execution of these events, the police will be implementing road closures and diversions starting at 7 am.

He said the affected roads will only be reopened once the ceremonial events have concluded.

The roads impacted by these closures and diversions include:

  • Jalan Wayang-Jalan Main Bazaar (traffic from Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman will be diverted to the traffic light near St. Mary School).
  • Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg-Wawasan.
  • Jalan Tabuan-Jalan Mcdougall traffic light.
  • Jalan Temple to Jalan Wayang.

In addition, a section of the road from Jalan Main Bazaar (after Jalan Gambier) to Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman will be closed for Kraft Sarawak sales and exhibition tents.

To minimise disruptions to traffic flow, members of the public are strongly advised not to park their vehicles by the roadside.

Alternative parking areas have been made available, including the UTC parking lot, Sarawak Plaza parking lot, Civic Centre, Tun Jugah building and Medan Pelita building.

Ahsmon added that those attending the festival, must adhere to the traffic signals and follow the instructions by the on-duty police officers.
