MIRI: In an effort to raise money to help build more bathrooms for students at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Long Loyang in Marudi, a group of people have come up with a creative idea to achieve their target.

Their idea seems to work, as they eventually managed to raise RM7, 354, exceeding their target of RM5,000.

They had sought public donation via social media (Instagram) by highlighting pictures of the school’s students taking bath in a very crowded bathroom.

According to one of the group members who wished to remain anonymous when contacted, the group closed the fundraising appeal page yesterday since they had achieved their target.

He added all proceeds will be handed over to the school’s headmaster.

Meanwhile, Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau when contacted on the matter, lauded the initiative taken by the group.

“I am happy and welcomed the initiative made by this group of people to help the school especially in rural areas…in fact there are so many dilapidated schools in Telang Usan, and SK Long Loyang is one of it,” he said.

“That is why we are really hoped that the federal government approve the RM1 billion budget to repair schools in rural areas in Sarawak,” he reiterated.

He hoped no one would politicise the issue as this affected everyone’s child regardless of their parents’ political background.

“We should take school out of politics,” he said.
