Cultivating high value-added business

THE Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) is actively promoting and developing informal and micro entrepreneurs in the target range of 40 years and under as part of its new Entrepreneur Development portfolio.

According to its minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, his ministry aims to provide development programmes and platforms by planning and designing appropriate programmes based on the MYSED Strategic Planning 2022-2026.

“The programme specifically promotes new technology-based start-ups or knowledge-based sectors with the goals of cultivating high value-added business,” he said in his ministerial winding up speech at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here, today.

He said among the programmes that have been implemented were the Youth Entrepreneur Setup (YES) Programme, Youth Entrepreneur Setup and Financing, JUMS Start Biznes, Roombark Bundle and Jom Jadi Tauke.

“YES started in the northern zone in Miri division on March 19 this year with a total of 365 youths took part in the programme.

“It provides early exposure to young people interested in entrepreneurship by exchanging entrepreneurial and business information from relevant government agencies.

“In the meantime, the Youth Entrepreneur Setup and Financing event, which was held on April 2 this year in collaboration with Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia (Bank Rakyat), is created to share information on Micro Financing Loan Assistance specifically for micro and informal youth entrepreneurs.

“For this year, YES will continue to be implemented in Sibu and Kuching as well as other divisions in the future,” he said.

Program Bina Jaringan Rangkaian Industri, Youth Business Challenge, Youth Entrepreneur Carnival or Conference, Business Management and Upskilling Course and e-commerce and digital marketing were some of the programmes available.

He stated that they aimed to motivate young people to pursue a career in business through the Car Boot Sale and Flea Market programmes.

Furthermore, Abdul Karim stated that the development of the MYSED One-Stop Youth Centre in each Dewan Suarah provides a platform for knowledge on business and entrepreneurship in specific sectors related to the digital economy.

He said his ministry was also actively engaging with entrepreneurship agencies in Sarawak to provide a strong support and network in the growth of youth entrepreneurs.

“We are collaborating closely with entrepreneurship organisations including commercial banks, International Trade, Industry and Investment Ministry, Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), Majlis Amanah Rakyat Malaysia (MARA), Dewan Usahawan Bumiputera Sarawak (DUBS), SABERKAS, Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM), cooperatives and others,” he pointed out.
