Cultural Arts Festival draws 18 ethnic associations

MIRI: A total of 173 participants from 18 ethnic associations are taking part in the Sarawak Cultural Arts Festival here.

The two-day event which began on Saturday night at the civic centre was launched by Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I Datuk Sebastian Ting.

“I’m impressed as this festival managed to gather different ethnic groups in Sarawak,” he said.

“This is a remarkable moment, this shows a real harmonious atmosphere which one can only see in Sarawak. The Ministry would like to see more of such multi-cultural events organised.”

Thus he hopes this festival would become a yearly event.

The festival is jointly organised by the Sarawak Chinese Association, Federation of Sarawak Ulu Associations Malaysia (FORUM), Miri Indian Association, Miri Sikh Association, Miri Dayak Association, Miri Melanau Association, Miri Malay Association, Miri Shop Association, Miri Bidayuh Dayak Association, Sarawak Kenyah National Association, Sarawak Kayan Association, Sarawak Bisaya Association, Sarawak Rurum Kelabit Association, Persatuan Berawan Sarawak, Sarawak Lun Bawang Association, Sarawak Lakiput Association, Sarawak Tipun Penan Development Association and Sarawak Saban Association.

Also present at the launching were Mayor Adam Yii , Residenr Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf and the event’s organising chairman Denry Ting.
