KUCHING: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak visited community-based rehabilitation centre (PDK) Sentuhan Kasih Kuching and presented ang pow to 88 children.
Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii said Sentuhan Kasih Kuching PBK, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), catered for special needs students, helping them learn certain skills and also helping them integrate into society.
“The centre is run mainly by volunteers and this is one of the ways we want to show our appreciation to them for their dedication and patience in helping and educating these children, including appreciating the hard work from the parents,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday (Feb 8).
He said during the pandemic, the centre was not allowed to run and because of that, many parents had to take time to take care of the children at home.
“We understand it is not easy to raise such a child as they have many different special needs that some families do struggle to provide.
“Which is why such centres are so important, to provide additional support and training for such children so that they also live a good life.
“Due to ‘Zero Reject Policy’ previously introduced by the Pakatan Harapan government, more and more of these children can now register in government schools under the Special Needs Classes.
“After school, some still come back to the centre for further training and lessons as well.”
Also joining Dr Yii was DAP member Julian Tan.
