KUCHING: Democratic Action Party (DAP) will be placing more emphasis on young candidates for the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).

“But, announcements of the candidates would be made once Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had determined the exact date for the polls,” said Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii.

On whether he would be nominated to defend his seat, Dr Yii said the party and party leaders would decide this.

When asked for the latest development of negotiations among the Opposition for the GE15, he said DAP was open to negotiations with other opposition parties in Sarawak.

“We want a non-complex government to solve various issues such as the rising cost of living. Since this is a crucial matter, we are open to any negotiation that will result in a unified opposition.”

Dr Yii added that the negotiations must be based on existing principles of ensuring that the people’s issues are given priority.

“DAP wants to be a cohesive and integrated opposition because the outcome of the upcoming election will determine the direction of the country.”

He also called upon the youth to consider the policies put forth by parties in addition to their candidates.

“They (youth) ought to read more in order to comprehend the problems facing our nation. Additionally, the issues that exist so that we can see what ideas or policies any political party has put forth.

“The best decision for the nation or region they represent will be made from there,” he added.
