KUCHING: The Jom Sihat programme organised by Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) is a starting point for participants looking to reduce weight or address weight-related issues, said DBKU mayor Hilmy Othman.

“It’s essential to note that this programme doesn’t solely focus on physical activities but emphasises knowledge about adopting a healthy lifestyle and effective weight loss strategies,” he said.

He made these remarks at the Jom Sihat prize presentation ceremony held at DBKU’s Auditorium on Wednesday (Dec 20)

Fostering a positive mindset is essential for initiating genuine change and cultivating a healthy lifestyle, said Hilmy.

This optimistic approach becomes crucial in light of the significant stress prevalent in contemporary life, both at work and at home.

“Through this programme, we can learn the correct and regular physical activities. Not only can we achieve better health, but it will also help reduce stress levels in our lives.

“Regardless of the efforts made by DBKU to assist citizens, it’s important to remember that real change begins within ourselves. Any initiative by DBKU will not achieve its goals if we fail to change ourselves.

“I hope that all the knowledge gained during this programme will be fully utilised by participants, contributing to the creation of energetic, active, and productive citizens with a healthy lifestyle to face future challenges while maintaining their physical health,” he said.

Hilmy said at the DBKU level, the focus is on raising awareness and providing exposure on the importance of weight management, along with creating spaces and opportunities for citizens to engage in healthy physical activities such as exercise and sports.

Also present during the ceremony was the Director of DBKU Mohamed Khaidir Abang.
