KUCHING: The state government will decide whether to allow marriage ceremonies to resume  under the recovery movement control order (RMCO) after listening to the presentations on the standard operating procedures (SOPs) by the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) and Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) today.

“We will announce the decision tomorrow after the presentations,” said State Disaster Management Committee chairman, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said during a press conference on the daily Covid-19   updates here at the old State Legislative building yesterday.

He was asked by the media whether Sarawak would allow religious activities to resume.

Asked to comment on a suggestion by the Sarawak Teachers’ Union (STU) to delay the reopening of kindergartens and pre-schools, Uggah said that the state government would stick to its decision to allow them to reopen on July 1.

He believed that the decision was made after extensive consideration and discussions with the experts as well as taking into account public’s view.

“We understand and respect STU’s opinion. But we will stick to our decision,” said Uggah.
