Man fined for possessing stolen property

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here today fined a local man RM2,500 in default six months in prison for keeping stolen property, specifically a cash storage box belonging to a popular beverage store.

Mohd Shah Rahul Larendera, 25, from Kampung Bintawa Hilir pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan to a charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, it carries up to five years in prison or a fine or both.

Shah was accused of possessing a stolen property in front of the Old Court building, Jalan Barack around 8.30 pm on Oct 13.

According to the facts of the case, the complainant was informed by his employee regarding a money deposit box and about RM100 had gone missing and suspected to be stolen.

The complainant then checked the CCTV footage and found that an unknown man had entered the premises and taken the box.

A police report was made and it led to Shah’s arrest a day after the incident at his residence in Kampung Bintawa Hilir around 7.15 pm.

Investigation found that Shah had committed the offence of possessing a stolen property in the form of a money deposit box, and the complainant confirmed that the box belonged to his company through a key.

Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case while Shah was unrepresented by a counsel.
