BETONG: Mohamad Razi Sitam has warned individuals against trespassing on the yet-to-be-opened Pan Borneo Highway route, stressing the importance of prioritising safety for themselves and other road users.

The Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development highlighted that when a route is not yet opened, it indicates that certain components are still incomplete and require finishing by the contractor.

“While it may seem ready to us, in reality, it is not. Therefore, until it is officially opened by the contractor, we should refrain from using it as we do not know its safety level. Let us exercise patience, as it will be opened for use when the time comes,” he said.

He also urged caution at specific locations such as detours or entry points, where traffic safety equipment like signs, reflectors, solar lights, and barriers are usually placed due to potential dangers. “Vandalism or theft of such equipment is concerning and undermines the safety measures in place.”

The Saribas assemblyman stressed the importance of cooperation in facilitating development work and advised against stealing traffic safety equipment along the under-construction highway route.

He called on the Pan Borneo Highway concessionaire to reinstall any missing equipment to ensure the safety of road users.

The construction progress of the Pan Borneo Highway reached 94 per cent as of last April, and he advised the public to remain patient and exercise caution while traveling on the road.
