MUKAH: Mukah Hospital is currently facing challenges related to a dilapidated dialysis machine that has been in use for 18 years, according to Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine.

“This urgent issue, along with the frequent breakdown of replacement machines and the lack of necessary tools, needs immediate attention.”

Royston expressed his concern during a recent dinner for the Mukah Hospital Board of Visitors (ALPH) Members.

He highlighted the dependency of dialysis patients on these services and machines, and the fact that the nearest referral hospitals are located in Sibu and Bintulu, outside the Mukah area.

Expressing his sadness at this situation, he appealed for assistance or donations from generous individuals or organisations to help purchase a new dialysis machine for Mukah Hospital.

“I am also aware of the lack of several other machines such as ultrasound equipment and various healthcare-related services.

“Although healthcare falls under the jurisdiction of the federal government, the Sarawak government will still provide assistance within its capabilities and allocated resources.

“I also hope that the Ministry of Health will take appropriate action to address and resolve the problems faced by Mukah Hospital,” he said.

Previously, Royston had contributed RM10,000 worth of furniture to Mukah Hospital and expressed his appreciation for the hospital staff and frontline workers who tirelessly served the public during the Covid-19 pandemic.

During the ceremony, certificates of appreciation were presented to donors and contributors who have supported Mukah Hospital. The event was attended by ALPH Mukah chairman Jay Keram and Mukah Hospital director Dr Yik Kah Seng.
