SARATOK: Funds from the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) and Minor Rural Projects (MRP) are provided through the assemblyman to repair dilapidated schools.

However Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri stressed it was very limited that the allocation had to be distributed to many schools.

According to him, the schools in the Kalaka state constituency require attention and immediate action due to the dilapidated conditions of the administrative blocks and classrooms.

“So far I have helped to upgrade several old schools using MRP and RTP funds allocated to me.

“I understand that there are limited funds available, but I am excited to assist the school in any way possible. Whether it’s through rotations or other means, I believe we can fix the damage and improve the rundown buildings.

“We may not be able to accomplish it entirely, but our efforts as the Sarawak government have been proven,” he said.

He said this after being briefed by the Saratok District Education Office about the status of the Five-Year Malaysia Plan (RMLT) for schools under the Kalaka state constituency.

Under the Kalaka constituency, there are SMK Bahasa Malaysia (BM) Saratok, Sixth Form College Saratok, SMK Kalaka, SMK Agama Saratok, SK Sungai Entebu, SK Sungai Antu, SK Kampung Kupang, SK Sungai Nyiar Roban, SK Perpat, SK Abang Abdul Rahman Saratok, SK Lubok Nibong, SK Haji Bollah Kaba and Chinese National Type School (SJKC) Myn Syn.

He believes that the federal government should take a more proactive role in developing impoverished schools in Sarawak, including in the Kalaka constituency.

Mohamad thanked the Saratok District Education Office for their hard work in assisting the schools here.

“With a more structured plan from them, all schools will benefit. What is important in gaining knowledge, children can learn in a conducive manner and I attach great importance to education,” he said.

Earlier he was represented by the deputy chief of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Kalaka branch Councillor Kasdi Pandi on a working visit to SK Sungai Entebu Saratok following a request from the school to improve the infrastructure at the school’s Open Hall.
