JULAU: A 49-year old disabled man was killed and a woman suffered burns when fire broke out at Rh Micheal Marau at Sungai Sejugam here yesterday (Sept 28).
A total of 189 individuals were left homeless in the evening fire.
The Bintangor Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they were alerted to the incident at 4.26 pm.
Firefighters upon reaching the scene couldn’t do much to save the 36-door longhouse as the fire had engulfed and destroyed it.
“Bomba had to draw water from a nearby river to extinguish the fire.
“The 49-years-old deceased, a person with disability, was found in one of the doors,” the department said.
The operation ended at 9.45 pm. The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
