KUCHING: Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has plans to offer a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine course at its Bintulu Campus.

Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, said that the offering of this programme is a duplication of the existing Doctor of Veterinary Medicine programme at the Serdang Campus.

He said that the programme will be offered at the Bintulu Campus using the same curriculum and admission requirements as Serdang’s.

“Currently, the offering is still being studied by UPM because the human and physical resource requirements need to be taken into account, especially the animal clinical facilities required for the programme.

“The programme can only be provided when UPM can provide the facilities,” he said when answering questions from Betong MP Dr Richard Rapu in the Dewan Rakyat recently.

He added that the programme is open to holders of Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) certificates or matriculation graduates, Agricultural Science Foundation graduates and equivalent diploma graduates.
