SIBU: Folk in Dudong here have been told not to expect any monetary reward in return for their votes in the state election.

Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing says reward such as this is only short-term.

Instead, the folk should vote honestly, he said yesterday.

“This is because when a candidate wins the election, it will facilitate the development of this area for long-term benefits.

“If a candidate gives RM350, RM500 or RM1,000 to buy their votes, he is a cheater and this will affect the people’s future,” he said at a programme at Rumah Nyundang Jalin, Jalan KJD here.

Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP, said voters should change their attitude if they really want a leader who can bring development to their constituency.

At the same time, he also called on the newly-appointed local council exco to regularly review and consider the issues and needs of the people as well as carry out the responsibilities entrusted to them.
