MIRI: The Penan community in Telang Usan has been urged to support Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and work closely with government agencies and not be swayed by negative propaganda.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dato Dennis Ngau said this is vital for continued progress and development.

“The government under GPS has been bringing development to the community,” he said during the launching of a two -day Rural Service Centre (RSC) programme held in Long Loteng.

There are 16,000 Penans in the Telang Usan constituency.

“Never listen to negative propaganda which tries to instigate the Penan to fight against the government, we must learn from the Bruno Manser episode of the past,” he disclosed.

More than 500 villagers from the surrounding areas came to the programme over the weekend which featured various government agencies.

A total 88 villages within Telang Usan constituency received durian saplings from Dennis at the programme.

The programme was held by the Miri Resident Office in collaboration with State Implementation Monitoring Unit (SIMU) and Sarawak Planning Unit.
