MIRI: Firefighting efforts are still continuing in this northern division of Sarawak despite hot and dry weather conditions.

Dozens of firemen from Miri and Lopeng fire stations have been mobilised to areas in Permyjaya and Tudan to contain the wildfires, said Miri Zone 6 fire chief Supt Law Poh Kiong.

At press time, it is still unknown how many acres have been burnt.

A total of 13 bushfires were spotted as of Wednesday.

A python was found hiding inside the bush, probably trying to escape heat from the blaze.

“During the operation, our men found several animals trapped within the affected areas,” said Law.

The animals were rescued and transported to safety. Among them were pythons and monitor lizards.

A monitor lizard is safely removed during the operation.
