MUKAH: A driver was trapped in a collision involving two 10-ton lorries carrying loads of stones along the Jalan Kemena Sungai Bawang Ulu Balingian today (Mar 30).

According to reports by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the incident happened at 8.50 am and a team was dispatched from the Tatau Bomba station to the scene.

“Upon arrival at 9.35 am, firefighters confirmed the incident involving two 10-ton lorries carrying stones with one victim found in the driver’s seat of one of the lorries.

“Immediate rescue operations commenced, employing specialised tools to extricate the victim. Subsequently, he was handed over to the Ministry of Health ambulance team for further medical assistance,” it said.

Additionally, measures were taken to clean up spilled oil using fire fighting equipment.

With the situation brought under control and deemed safe, the operation concluded at 10.12 am.

In a separate incident, firefighters stationed at Petra Jaya successfully extinguished a fire involving five wheelie bins at a dump site situated in Lorong 6H, Taman Sri Maliha, Phase II here at 3.27 am.

“The fire involved five wheelie bins, all of which were completely engulfed in flames. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties.

“Firefighting operations were swiftly initiated, utilising a single stream of water from the pillar hydrant pump to control and extinguish the blaze. The fire was successfully contained by 3.55 am,” it said in the report.

Following the containment of the fire, overhaul operations were carried out to ensure there were no remaining sources of fire at the scene.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the fire department.
