Duo nabbed for theft of subsidised diesel

MIRI: Two local men were detained for suspected misappropriation of 8,000 litres of subsidised diesel worth RM11,450 in raids in an illegal store nearby Sungai Baong Riverbank here on Thursday night.

Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Miri chief Joe Azmi Jamil said the suspects, aged 39 and 49, were arrested during an operation carried out at 9.30pm.

Also seized was a lorry tanker worth at RM90,000.

Joe said further investigation found that the premises did not have any permission from the supply controller in relation to the possession of the scheduled controlled item or diesel.

The total value of the seizure is estimated to be worth RM101,450.

The case is being investigated under Section 20(1) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, read together with Section 21 of the same Act.
